I had a really nice day today. I spent lunch and a little time afterwards with my friend Willow and her husband George. Time after that for reflection and leisure. Then, tonight, I went to the Vermont Institute for Contemporary Art VTCA and took a class on.............COLLAGE. The name of the class was the Tao of Dada. Interesting name and interesting concept. Our instructor took us through a brief art history tour of Dada artists and their contribution to collage.
We worked on our own pieces. I was enjoying it but got to a place where I was watching glue dry. So, it seemed a good time to do the piece for tonight. I used a lot of layers of tracing paper on this one. The bottom layer was a landscape scene cut from a Audubon Society calendar. I also used some film negatives amd a few scraps of text. On top of all this, I cut a flower vase image from a greeting card. The painting is from Alfred H. Maurer and was done in 1910. It is aptly called "Flowers in a Glass Vase." I off centered the vase and the original was more to the center. I loved the class. There is one more class tomorrow night. I will learn a lot.
